My Very Own!

         I, myself am a big fan of henna tattoos. I think they are very stylish and cool! What is cooler is that they are made from a plant that grows from our earth. With a little bit of talent we can create amazing body art! They don't all have to be the same, you can design them yourselves or get them done by an artist. They can be big or small, swirly or straight lines. You could even write a quote on if you wanted to. Henna is a way of expressing yourself and your interests from a piece of greenery, which I find very intriguing! Here is my own henna that I got designed by someone this Summer.

Types of Henna:

Black Henna;

        The first type of henna that I will mention is the one most popular for us young teens today is the Black Henna. There are two types of black henna. The first type is with a chemical added to the powder to get an intense black hue, which is called para-phenylenediamine (also known as PPD). This chemical can cause irritation and harm to skin where it is applied as it is a highly allergic substance.
                The second type of black henna is achieved by natural ingredients, which we would use to not irritate our skin. This type is mixed in with the indigo plant (also known as indigofera tinctoria). This method also achieves the dye/stain on your skin without causing any harm. The powder is a greeny colour and often smells like frozen peas!

Neutral Henna;

      The second type of henna is known as neutral. Even though it is a type of Henna plant it is no Henna at all. It is called the cassia obovata plant and is known as Senna. The plant has been around for centuries and has many great features such as antifungal and antibacterial properties. It also has a type of acid that causes a golden yellow stain to the hair. The neutral henna actually acts as a tye of conditioner to your luscious locks especially to darker hair. It gives thickness to the hair and also offers a colour boost to lighter hair. Its quite efficient!

Red Henna;

        The third type of henna comes from the Lawsonia inermis plant which is known as the Red Henna. This type of henna has red/orange dye molecules added which off course gives off a red/orange stain to the skin and hair. Although, the plant itself is translucent which is perfect for dying your natural hair as it keeps the colour but makes it healthier, more voluminous and smoother. Another option is using it as the tattoo henna to stain the skin which gives you a red colour finish. This type of henna has two types of qualities!

Is there a difference?

            As we can see all Henna powders look similar but in fact they are very different. They all come from the same plant species but are often known as different names. The term henna associates with Red Henna but we use it as a broad term for all the Henna types.

Girls who took this hobby into a profession tell us a bit about how to make Henna.

What are Hennas?

           Henna, also known as hina, is actually a type of plant and the sole species of the Lawsonia genus. The Lawsonia is a type of flowering plant which produces the dye for Hennas. The English name, henna, comes from the Arabic one which is: حِنَّاء‎ , and can be pronounced to 'hinna'. The English name can also be referred to as the dye that is prepared from the hina plant to what most teen girls know today, the beautiful Henna's.
          To keep it short, Henna is basically the dye taken from the plant and painted nicely on your skin to stain it which then creates amazing body art. This Body Art stain could last from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the different type of Henna that is used and your skin reacting to it. So if you want to get one, make sure the person knows what they are doing, because once its on your body, it will not be coming off by running your hand under water!

The Henna Plant, which looks like normal greenery
is produced to a paste like substance to paint on the body.
